Scholarships for Math/CS Majors

Applications for Spring 2012 are now available. Math/CS majors who are NOT currently receiving a SMACS scholarship for the 2011-2012 school year are urged to apply. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Dana Vazzana (dvazzana@truman.edu).

Incentive Scholarships

The online application for Spring 2012 incentive scholarships is now online. Please apply soon. Application deadline is December 10, 2011.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to fund Incentive Scholarships for students who are not math or computer science majors to take extra math or computer science classes. To be eligible, a student needs to:

  • be a US citizen or national,
  • have financial need as demonstrated by the Financial Aid Form (FAFSA),
  • not be a math or computer science major
  • take a math or computer science class that could count toward a math or cs major and that does not meet a requirement in their current major program(s).

Students who meet the above criteria are eligible for a scholarship of up to $500. Students who take more than one mathematics or computer science course that is not required by their majors may be eligible for more than $500. Our goal is to encourage students to continue taking math or computer science courses, and to consider becoming math/cs majors or minors. Note that current math or computer science minors are eligible for funding to take a class in their minor. For more information, contact Dr. Dana Vazzana.

Support for SMACS is provided by the National Science Foundation's Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (S-STEM) program under grant number 0807078.
