Scholarships for Math/CS Majors

There is now a Special Spring 2010 Math/CS Majors scholarship application page available. If you are NOT currently receiving a SMACS scholarship, but you have financial need (as demonstrated by the FAFSA), and you are a US citizen, you should apply by filling out the online application. Scholarships of up to $5000 are available. Review of these applications will begin in early January.

Incentive Scholarships

The online application for this scholarship for the Spring 2010 semester continues to be available. We will continue to review applications on an ongoing basis.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to fund Incentive Scholarships for students who are not math or computer science majors to take extra math or computer science classes. To be eligible, a student needs to:

  • be a US citizen or national,
  • have financial need as demonstrated by the Financial Aid Form (FAFSA),
  • not be a math or computer science major
  • take a math or computer science class that could count toward a math or cs major and that does not meet a requirement in their current major program(s).

Students who meet the above criteria are eligible for a scholarship of up to $500. Students who take more than one mathematics or computer science course that is not required by their majors may be eligible for more than $500. Our goal is to encourage students to continue taking math or computer science courses, and to consider becoming math/cs majors or minors. Note that current math or computer science minors are eligible for funding to take a class in their minor. There will be an opportunity to apply for these scholarships for Fall 2009 later in the Spring semester. For more information, contact Dr. Dana Vazzana.

Support for SMACS is provided by the National Science Foundation's Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (S-STEM) program under grant number 0807078.
